Extensive K-12 campus planning

Independent Schools

ARC strives to support our partner institutions with a campus planning approach that is rooted in research and a deep understanding of the communities we serve. We have developed more than 30 master plans for independent schools and celebrate the uniqueness of each institution. We work to foster a planning vision that builds on the rich history of each client's campus, while embracing the values and goals individual school communities.

Recent work includes campus master planning efforts for Deerfield Academy, Buckingham, Browne & Nichols, and La Jolla Country Day School.

Since 1984, ARC has worked with Deerfield Academy on programming, planning, and master planning to assist the development and implementation of the school’s long-range plan. This planning work has included comprehensive and partial planning updates in 2013, 2017, and 2023. These planning and construction projects included a total of ten different building renovations and additions between the years of 2011 and 2024 and include current efforts for new projects through the next 10+ years.

BB&N retained ARC to develop a master plan to inform upcoming renovation projects and long-term conceptual master-planning across their three campuses in Cambridge, MA. The completed master plan became a 20 year planning vision where we merged the middle school and upper school campuses on one site to enhance the sense of community, increase connectivity and reduce significant redundancies in annual and capital expenses.

For La Jolla Country Day School we were tasked with developing a visionary master plan to consider how the campus will evolve over the next 30 years. As we listened to the LJCDS community, planning efforts coalesced around two concepts: Path to Place and Early Wins. Our team focused on unifying spaces through thoughtful pathways and pedestrian experience, and identifying modest changes imagined as a menu of improvements that could dramatically improve the campus for different users, allowing school leadership to match improvements with funds and timelines as they evolve.
