Designing for flexibility

Belmont Hill School

Belmont Hill School's existing Lynch Hall building, originally constructed in 1950 with a major learning center/library addition in 1987, houses the school's existing dining facility. ARC was engaged to identify and evaluate an approach to expand the current dining hall to accommodate the immediate and future needs of the school’s anticipated student growth, while also maintaining the functionality of the library. The expansion/renovation integrates a fully glazed enclosure to be used for both dining and library functions. A folding glass wall acts as a moveable partition allowing the space to be open during dining hours to provide continuity into the dining hall/servery, and closed for study when dining is not in session.
